ARC Short – June 2008

This is the short version

We have a meeting tonight.  7:30 PM at the Fire Training Center.

Program Tonight:  FINAL Field Day Planning and D*Star Video

Last meeting

At our last meeting we had Mike KA2ZEV give us a run down on his efforts to convert Midland commercial radios to amateur use.  There were may advantages and some disadvantages to the use of this kind of radio.  For the Potomac River Run I found the commercial 6 meter radio to have better receive audio (read LOUDER),  They are ruggedly built and are simple to use.  The Midland only has two power settings 60 watts and 110 watts.

Activities this last month.

Manassas Hamfest.  This is a hamfest that has had problems in the last two years. I attended and hope other got a chance.  As always the Old Virginia Hams had the heat turned up.  Looked like a good turn out and with the Gaithersburg hamfest cancelled this may be one of the last for the year.  We will hear more from the hamfest committee.

Future Programs

I have asked AMSAT to provide us with a program in July.  We will also try to get a program from the K8GP grid pirates (I’ve asked them to talk about microwave and demo their microwave bus.)  It’s not to early to start thinking about next years club leadership.  We will need a new president next year

Congratulations

To KI3O for working more DX… Soon bob will be working DX counties To N4CWP on his retirement.

To KA4GFY for getting 30 feet of his tower in the ground and up in the air.

Hope to see you all at the meeting tonight.
