The Morse Telegraph Club

The Morse Telegraph Club is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation of the knowledge and traditions of telegraphy.  Our membership includes not only those from the craft of telegraphy, using Morse Code (American or International) either wire or wireless, but also includes those who are actively involved in the goals and initiatives of our organization.  These goals are, but not limited to, preserving the heritage of telegraphy and educating the public on the history of Morse telegraph communications.

  1. I am a park ranger at James A. Garfield National Historic Site, in Mentor, Ohio. Yesterday, a visitor asked me how telegraph messages were relayed over long distances, at the same time maintaining privacy. I had no good answer. Have you? (I know you must!)

I will be away from the park for two weeks, but I would love to get the answer to this most interesting question. I am giving you my personal email address below. My work email is alan_gephardt@nps.gov
